  my wife had Alzheimer's, when she passed away last December, I was with her holding her hand, and when she took her last breath, I called hospice, and when the funeral home came to get her, they were very respectful, and they made her look very good again, I have a lot of respect for morticians, they do a job most people wouldn't do I watch the videos, and they are very informative, keep doing a good job with the videos

  My daughter’s boyfriend in high school had been dragged into a field face down when he died after drinking with friends. They tried to hide him and distance themselves from him. At the funeral he looked mostly normal except his lips were huge. They felt he would have been very embarrassed to know he looked like that, but they also felt his friends would need closure and needed to see his body. Before my daughter could see him, his grandmother who I believe was also a nurse, explained what he looked like before she saw him, which helped her cope. You help so many by explaining the things that may confuse and concern people. Thank you for your channel.

  When I lost my newborn I remember going to the funeral home 4 days later and they asked if I wanted to see him. I didn’t, but I knew I would someday regret it if I said no. When she brought him out, she HANDED him to me in a blanket. I didn’t expect that. And he looked like a doll. I remember being horrified at what had been done to him. That was 100% the worst moment of all of it. She had to take him away because I lost it. <br>3 years later, I’m watching your videos I’m trying to come to terms with it and accept it more. Thank you for being thorough and kind in your explanations. It really helps in its own way.

  Many years ago, I was with my family boating, and we found a man who had drowned 5 weeks previously. He was so bloated that he was floating in 6 inches of water with most of his body out of the water. I carried that stench in my nose for several years. My hat is off to you folks that handle corpses on a regular basis.

  15 year Firefighter/8 year EMT here. Worst call I have been to with decomp was a fellow who decided to leave this world and take all his worldly possessions with him in a huge fire. He failed in this, but we had to make the trailer safe for entry for EMS/LEOs. This was mid summer in the South and this had happened several days prior before anyone noticed he was &quot;missing&quot;. We found him in his bedroom next to a shotgun he had &quot;eaten&quot;. We were using SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus) and could still smell the decomp. There was nothing left of his head from the jaw upwards and a lot of biological material all over the room. <br><br>Lauren, I can feel for your experience with your decedent. BTW, love your content and no nonsense way of explaining an important part of life.

  Lauren, could you talk about what people can expect or should know about the abatement process after an unattended death? My father-in-law passed away last May, in Arizona, and his body wasn’t found for several days. He had used a gun to take his own life. &nbsp;The detective told us we would need to hire an abatement service and we were totally unprepared for what that all meant. We were shocked by the quote from the first company and asked the detective about it. He was also shocked and encouraged us to get a second quote. We called the mortuary my father-in-law had already made arrangements with and the sent someone else. What we didn’t know is that the clock is ticking when it comes to abatement. We thought the police would clean biological material up, but they didn’t. So the second guy said that decomposition had progress and had spread throughout the house through the ventilation system. We were just so unprepared for it all on top of the shock of his death. I would love it if you could make a video about unattended death, abatement, what the police do and do not do on site, etc. Thank you!

  My dad was at a funeral for one of the boys club. It is a group of them from work that retired all in the pandemic. They have lunch once a month, etc. so all very close. Two of them were waiting in the consol line for the wife which just happened to end near the open casket. So they were standing there and turned to “talk” with their passed buddy and his eye popped open. Just one. One hurried and put his hand over it while my dad ran for the funeral director. They didn’t want the wife to see or hear about it. The director profusely thanked them for their discretion and none were the wiser. They got through the rest and got into the car and laughed their asses off! They said he got the last word. When my dad got home he said he almost shit himself and was so glad he was to one that got to get the director because he knows he wouldn’t have been able to touch the body and would’ve had to just close the casket. But we were all laughing because we knew his friend had to have something to do with it. It was just his way. 😂

  Last December, I went over to visit my brother. I found him. Rather what was left of him.<br><br>He was on the floor. On his knees and elbows as if looking for something under the bed.<br><br>I called 9 1 1. They had me start chest compressions even though he was semi stiff and cold to the touch.<br><br>They insisted on the proceedure while first responders were dispatched.<br><br>It took 8 minutes for them to arrive. They checked the carotid for pulse and told me to stop.<br><br>It turned out, at autopsy, that he had been dead for almost a week.<br><br>He was in remarkably good shape. Decomposition was very limited as his apartment was cool.<br><br>So you are not wrong about temperature either helping or hindering decay.<br><br>It was a hard goodbye.<br><br>I urge everyone that if they don&apos;t hear from a loved one that is nearby for more than 24 - 48 hrs, go and check on them. If they are alright you&apos;ve lost nothing. But if they are not, you may still save a life.<br><br>Love to all.<br><br>Thank you, Lauren, for what you do . . .

  At 72 years old I remember when my father passed. He was a WW2 vet. I was daddy’s girl out of 5 other siblings. So when he passed I cried for the longest time. My mother said I stood next to his casket for 3 days. <br>I grabbed his arm &amp; it wasn’t my loving father. It was hard, very hard &amp; he didn’t move. My mother combed his hair in front of me. So I thought he was sleeping. I have to say the mortician did a phenomenal job. They fooled a 10 year old, that’s good, other than the arm.
