5:39 I'm a paramedic in Germany (Notfallsanitäter) and you don't get charged, if you need an ambulance. Especially not from the hospital, since most ambulance services aren't provided by hospitals. There once was a 5€ fee, but that is long gone.
One German city tried to implement a fee around 250€, since they had lots of incidents where insurance didn't cover the ambulance (like "Fehleinsätze", "erfolglose Reanimation" and "ambulante Behandlung" - Situations where no transport to a klinik was needed and as the ambulance is carried as a transporter in our system you can't book it...) but they got very bad backlash...

England here. The biggest cost to visit the hospital is the car park.

You have to understand something about renting in Germany. We don't have leases. We have unlimited rental agreements, and the landlord can only cancel them under very specific circumstances (e.g. you trashing the place or not paying the rent for several months). The landlord is also severely limited in how much they can raise the rent (so trying to raise the rent so high you can't afford it anymore doesn't work either).

Germans tend to live in rented apartments or houses for a very long time, sometimes decades or their whole life.
We treat rentals much more like "our" forever home than Americans would - which includes renovations.

German rentals generally are much more bare bones than you are used to - usually, it doesn't even include light fixtures, you only have bare wires sticking out of the ceiling where you attach your own light fixtures after moving in.

And if you live in a place for potentially the next 40 years, you don't really want to work with a cheap "landlord special" kitchen but have a kitchen designed to your preferences, with your choice of appliances.

Also, Kitchens in Germany are modular and standardized, so almost all appliances fit with almost all cabinets, and they are modular so you can just easily install / remove it. It's not as custom fitted as you're used to from the US. (Installing / Removing a kitchen takes about an afternoons work if you know what you're doing)

In Germany, neither ambulance services nor hospital stays are free of charge. There is a co-payment of 10 euros per ambulance trip and 10 euros per day in the hospital. The health insurance fund generally covers the remaining costs.
