  An honest mechanic is priceless.  About 15 years ago a dealer wanted $600 to do a $50 tune up on a 4.9 straight 6 . They got a few words and how they were taking advantage of people, especially the elderly and that they were going to Hell for it. The truck was there for a small repair which they fixed reasonably. I told them to close the hood and park it outside. I did a complete tune up for I believe was about $60 . It took about 45 minutes in a hotel parking lot.

  2001, F250, 7.3 Diesel -  552,000 miles -  Thru YouTube videos I've learned how to do everything to this vehicle.   Over the past year or so, I've replaced every component on the top end of engine and expect this engine to outlive this 75 y/o old man.   Only smokes if I push it hard from a dead stop!  Spouse says she's going to bury me sitting in the driver's seat !   :)

  Every town or city should have classes on very basic auto repair. &nbsp; Where you learn how to; <br>1. Change the air filter<br>2. &nbsp;Change the oil and filter.<br>3. &nbsp;Check the coolant level of your radiator. <br>4. &nbsp; Change your tire if you have a flat. &nbsp;Just the basic stuff many people just don&apos;t know how to do.

  Not under the hood, but at a dealership: around $800 to replace the drag links in a 2013 F250 4WD. &nbsp;They were not in need of replacement. &nbsp;This was at the Ford dealership where i bought the truck new. I didn&apos;t fall for it and haven&apos;t been back since. &nbsp;I got an email asking to evaluate my experience with the service. &nbsp;The shop manager replied asking what would be required to get my business back. &nbsp;A mistake is recoverable. &nbsp;A scam is not.

  No beef re this knowledgeable expert. <br>despite the length, Sal spoke with clarity and provided info that was beneficial for perusing, at least for the gems he shared with driveway folks. Gratefully recognised and received in a enjoyable presentation. That &quot;map&quot; thang was alwsys a puzzle for me, for years.
