  After 21 years an Army MP (&apos;79-&apos;00), and another 25 years still doing what needed to be done, I&apos;m finally slowing down enough to start writing my own songs. You boys have helped me make sense of the process and I&apos;m confidently looking forward to full-out retirement with my own music. Thank you.<br><br>Your first story here reminded me of advice I gave regularly to young soldiers and other workmates...<br>Never be afraid to embarrass yourself, but do your damned best not to be ashamed of yourself. <br>One we can dust ourselves off and learn from. The other just surely hurts someone.

  I sometimes write country tunes from a females perspective because I think it’s cool that a songwriter can be like an actor. Kind of get in the role. Especially if I’m thinking about a particular female artist that I have in mind when I write that song. Please put out that video about writing for the opposite sex to sing.

  1. I&apos;m glad you brought up the point about negativity. I sometimes fall in to an attitude of negativity. It&apos;s takes some work to get out of it. Usually if I give thanks for all the good things in my life, and there are quite a few, it helps. <br>2. I&apos;m a published artist with 700 plus streams, that doesn&apos;t entitle me to push my beliefs and opinions on everyone? 😄 Kidding. Thanks for what you guys do. It&apos;s appreciated greatly

  As always very useful and right on the nail. &nbsp;I came over from England &nbsp;a few times for Tin Pan South and events at the NSAI including some &nbsp;mentoring help from Gretchen Peters and got to listen to Rodney Crowell give advice &nbsp;and &nbsp;I did some co-writes in &nbsp;one of the rooms at &nbsp;NSAI&apos;s &nbsp;Roy Acuff Place HQ. I can&apos;t praise &nbsp;the people there enough, everybody was so helpful &nbsp;and &nbsp;warm hearted they were very supportive of &nbsp;a limey &nbsp;rooky like me. Why would anyone slag people off. It is like online dating not everybody in not a match for everybody else. ( Ps don&apos;t mention the online dating thing to Mrs Steinberg) Everybody is in the same boat, trying to share their love of music and write songs. For the lucky few make a living from it, I &nbsp;say well done Keep on Keeping on chaps. Best wishes Johnny

  Listened to this video again. I hope your dad eventually found recovery and peace, It seems that so few are actually able to. I was blessed and have been sober gosh.. 16 plus years now I guess. Wrote and published a song about it a couple years back called Always Good at Drinkin &nbsp;cause at one point in my life that was the only thing I was good at. Its a little rough but I&apos;d be honored if you gave it a listen, no self promotion intended of course cause I really dont think its good enough to consider pitching . But its from the heart. It&apos;s in my videos.

  Writing for the opposite gender is a skill I want to have, so I&apos;d like to see that video.
