I want to register my music primarily for protection, (I already register for copyrights), but don’t want to be part of the distributors and their feckless reindeer games. I already have my audience and don’t want to play with distributors who find every way to pay artists nothing then take their rights. I don’t want to contribute to their dreams and visions or support a corrupt system. I’m shaping a better outcome for myself without the drama. What is your view on this?

Thank you.

Which YouTube video do you explain all the steps to ensure you register with ALL the companies to ensure you don't leave any money on the table?

I gave up on everything except the music. Now I just write, record, and produce and put it online in several places. If a handful of people find it, cool.

gotta say i agree its not worth it for a few reasons. I registered with PROs for years - never saw a dime from it. Now the main advantage to copyright through copyright office is that you get protections. now if you were to find someone stealing your song - I'm pretty sure the main issue is you wouldn't be able to sue them...immediately. you'd need to file for the copyright and get it expedited but still possible as long as you have proof you fixed it into a tangible medium first. Also even if someone did steal your song - you'd still need to PAY to hire a lawyer to help you file claims and such - aka a song that maybe turned you no money is now going to cost you possibly a lot of money. even having it copyrighted doesn't stop someone from stealing it and making money and puts you in a position to go through a lengthy legal battle.

Thank you. I’ve been telling people this for years. When you sign up for the services, you are essentially giving away your music. The worst part is, the streaming services are in cahoots with the record industry. That record industry gets a cut of your music, even though you never signed a contract with them. They are getting kickbacks on the back end. Your music becomes their music, especially now with AI. Which is scanning your music and giving songwriters for the record companies ideas based off of your IP.

God bless this woman. As I tell everybody who writes and records music, start making CDs and vinyl and selling them. That way you cut everybody out of the process, except you. You make more money that comes directly into your wallet, without having to hand the rights to it over to a record company or publishing house. If you want to sell digital copies, do it and charge two dollars each for the songs or six dollars for the entire album. It costs one dollar to manufacture a CD with an insert and jewel case. Even less in bulk. Everything over that is profit.

Much love, beautiful girl. Keep singing your gospel. Because I hate that Artists are being taken advantage of, and have been since the beginning of the industry. It’s time for the Artist to take back their music and fans to support that artist directly.

Best to not participate in old school Mafia protection mechanisms, that what it was is. Stay away from their scams, it is theft disguised as protectionism. The fact that you uploaded your song to Public Platform (eg Youtube, Bandcamp, your Website), it is officially Published (publicized, get it), with Date, Song name Artist name, Songwriter's name, any Co-writer's names, Length, etc

It's better to get your own IRSC and UPCs because once you leave the distributor, they're still tied to your codes.

In the Netherlands, copyright organisation buma/stemra has a bad rep for taking YEARS to get reorganized and fix internal problems but still gathers income for me from songs from 20+ years ago. I don't have to do anything. Also fingerprinting music via certain platforms (like DJ Monitor) for my genre is essential to get PAID when other dj's play your music on big events and festivals. It took years, but now the whole system works. ISRC's are FREE, you can simply ask for them when registering at SENA (the netherlands), or the label does that for you depending on what kind of contract you sign.
