This song was about being a cog in the wheel of the record label. They toured for 5 years. When they got home they didn’t even have their own homes. They’d bought houses and cars for their family but hadn’t been able to enjoy the fruits of their labor. When they got off the plane they didn’t even say goodbye to each other. They were exhausted and just done. Jon hired a therapist to tour with them pretty early on in their career because he didn’t want their friendship to be ruined. He fired his manager, pr etc and took over all those jobs himself. So he got to pick when and how they tour, making sure they spend enough time with family. Jon also makes time to meet with city leaders on tour to see what their issues are with the homeless. He runs three restaurants that grow their own produce and if you can’t afford a meal you eat for free and in return work in the garden or wash dishes etc. He is the dishwasher and his wife or daughter hostesses. They’ve also built homes in Philly and NJ. He opened a food bank during Covid. The man never sleeps. His wife is the brains behind the operations and his rock. And his kids have turned out to be great adults, all very grounded. Jon in the last few years has been fighting with his vocal cords and underwent vocal folds medialization surgery. He isn’t the same but says each day is better. If you want to look to someone who has give his everything to his fans and equally to his community it’s Jon. He met his wife in 10th grade and have been married 36 years. He and Bruce Springsteen go out driving together on Sundays to catch up and relax.

"Bed of Roses" is definitely one of Bon Jovi's best vocal performances, it's a phenomenal display of textures.

Best story about this song is the director of "Young Guns II" wanted to use it in the movie. When he approached Jon with the idea Jon said "No, it doesn't really fit ('On a steel horse I ride' for example), I can write you an original one." and we got "Blaze of Glory".

Best performance of this song is John and Richie sitting down with acoustic guitars at the 1989 MTV Music Video Awards and trading vocal lines with this and Livin' on a Prayer. Will forever be in my favorites playlist!

I was born in 1978 and I remember being in elementary school listening to Bon Jovi Slippery When Wet audio cassette on my Sony Walkman and having a rock and roll religious experience. I can truly say that I grew up with some of the best music of all time in the 80’s. I do appreciate your reviews and at the same time I almost can’t believe that you are just now hearing some of these awesome jams. Keep it up and thanks for reminding me of how good it once was!!!
