I would write a rule like this:<br>At no point a car can make more than x dB of noise at disitance of y. This would be measured at 3.000 RPM by inspectors, and any tuning made for car to pass moise at at test RPM is prihibites.

Exhaust tuning. If you have 3" collectors and 3" exhaust pipes. Take a 3"x2.25" collector reducer. Weld on 10 inches of 2.25" exhaust. Slip the tuning tubes in at the collector flanges. <br>You must have a wide band air fuel ratio gauge installed. Bring RPMS in park or neutral up to 1,700 rpms and see if you are at 14.7. This tells you which way to go with the primary idle restrictions. Bring rpms up to 3,800 rpms. Again look for 14.7 to 1. Change the primary main jets to get to 14.7 at 3800. <br> Now you only have to tune the secondary main jets <br>Why does this work. The exhaust pulses speed up in the tuning tubes creating lower pressure in the collectors and primary tubes. Think. More scavenging at the exhaust ports. <br>The almost constant flow thru the reduced diameter of the tuning tube prevents any reversion from slamming back up thru the collector into the next exhaust event.
