Do you think intelligent life exists beyond Earth? What makes you believe or doubt it—and do you think they have ever visited our planet? 👽

What makes this film work is how much everything feels functional. Even the crew aren't all friends, just coworkers doing a job.

"Ash's responses being a bit robotic"..."I just thought was part of his character being British" 😂

I watched this in the theater when it was released and I will never forget… when Dallas turned in the air duct and the Alien was right there, the entire audience came off their seats. One of the best jump scares in movie history. Before jump scare was even a phrase.

Alien is a masterful filmmaking. Next up is one of the best sequels in cinematic history, Aliens (1986)

One of the important things to remember, is that at the time no one knew or even expected Ripley to be the last remaining survivor. The movie is very clever in keeping Ripley a relative side character for most of the movie, instead hinting at Dallas being the hero, and then after Dallas' death, Parker as the archetypal "macho" hero.

Alien plays on the audiences expectations of the macho guy being the final hero, so it was such a shock when Ripley suddenly becomes the final character. Unfortunately now that the character of Ripley has become a well known cinematic icon, that surprise element is lost.

The shock is real when only hand puppets convey your true feelings
