This is the only movie that I've unashamedly cried while watching in a movie theatre. I remember being totally shocked at the level of carnage that occurred on the beaches of Normandy. I still get emotional when I watch this movie. The sacrifice that these men made both in Normandy and the Pacific plus other places is awe inspiring and at the same time heartbreaking. God bless every single one of them .

I know an Army Ranger who said that no Army Ranger would ever say, "Earn this" to another Ranger. An Army Ranger would be expected to do his or her highest duty and not be owing a debt.

The landing scene stuns you silent. Imagine what it must have been like, hell and terror, incredibly brave men.

Arriving to the Normandy beaches just over two months after the battle, my Dad, assigned to the 28th Infantry Division, 110th Regiment, A company, saw Private Ryan. Upon seeing the blood soaked beach scene, Dad said: "The beach was as red as it was on D-Day. They were still finding bodies too."

I was a medic in Japan and took care of guys coming out of Nam. One of the talents I discovered was the ability to identify infections by smell. The scenes of the medics on the beach affected me the most. For reasons unnecessary for here, I was medivaced away from my guys in Japan. Stories I heard later was they were sent from Japan to Nam and were killed. I met one 20 years later and burst out crying. I was diagnosed with abandonment syndrome. I can imagine a lot of that happened after that war.

Until this remarkable film war movies were bang, bang your dead with s splattering of tomato ketchup, this film changed everything. I'm English and saw this in the cinema with my wife to be and her mother, as this wasn't bizarre enough I was left dumbfounded by the opening scenes and I unashamedly cried. I have visited that cemetery, it is an amazing place, and the associated museums and memorials with a highlight being able to see a the only B-26 Marauder outside of the US. We must also not forget the sacrifices of all of the other allied nationalities and also the lives of the defenders. War is a terrible affair.

Great film. However, I believe one of the Niland brothers was missing presumed dead, but later turned up as a POW.

6:23 An "absolutely brutal 10 day training camp" is laughable to anyone that has gotten through basic and AIT for any combat MOS. But for a movie, I applaud for the men goin through it to show things as chaotic and horrible as they were. Excellent job, from my grandfathers, my father and uncles and aunts, my cousins and me and to my son, for keeping it real. Much respect.

If Spielberg and hanks want to make a story about a real American then yellow wolf is where to start. Much respect to our veterans. I’ve read all the books. Natives are the original American badass.
