  I'm nearly 70 and it's my considered opinion that film critics are mostly full of bovine excrement and are experts at reprocessing it, but little else.

  The Odd Angry Shot is a 1979 Australian war film written, directed and produced by Tom Jeffrey (with Sue Millikin). It is based on the book of the same title by William Nagle, and follows the experiences of Australian soldiers during the Vietnam War. Australian cinema at its best

  Jarhead.  I was an Army medic. in the gulf war we spent a lot of time preparing for a long war and a lot of doing nothing.  We spent a lot of time in bunkers due to Scud attacks.  A ground war of three days.  We were left with the feeling of where is the rest of it.  There are things burned into my brain and still deal with the combat mentality.  Doing shit only other vets understand.

  The Big Red One was a very first war movie I had ever seen. The scariest part of the whole thing should be the most inspiring part of the whole thing and that was the giant cross of Jesus carving. The way Samuel Fuller made it look like Christ was freshly executed in World War I  and was a mumified decaying skeleton in the second war speaks volumes. Ooh yes, the ol boy getting his cajone blown off, really put the zap in your head, too.

  Gardens of Stone is an excellent movie. I buried 25 Airmen, I learned a lot from that movie. Very underrated

  The Beast was a highlight of HBO late night programming back in the day. You would never reliably see it except at 11pm or 2am, in the days before everything was at your recall. Such a harrowing and beautiful movie. Definitely recommend that one.
