Who else tuned out on a thought tangent and realized 3 items later that they had stopped listening and had to rewind? Lol.

One of the worst thing for me, was always that i would get lost in my head thinking about completely random crap, only to realize that i have no idea what my boss just said, but asking would be crazy, so i go back to my work station with no clue what i was asked to do. Then i spend hours trying to figure it out without asking.

4:24 you forgot one thing. "Now I look like I'm thinking" should be followed up by "ehm what am I thinking about while pretending to think?"

Watched some of this out of curiosity and I noticed there are a sizeable number of things that are just things neurotypical people might do, just you might be more introverted or polite for a large majority of the lower ones. But a huge thing I think is your sort of reaction to those situations AND how often they happen.

Like "default phrases", prepared questions, "customer service voice", etc. Lots of people do these things, especially in a work environment where you're kind of forced to adhere to a sort of etiquette. Similarly "avoiding annoying phone calls", "being polite about eating food you don't like" are also just avoiding things you find annoying and/or being polite. Especially if it's from someone you don't like that much or don't know very well. I think it's pretty easy for almost everyone to check a bunch of boxes on the situations in this video autistic or not.

But a huge thing that I think really has to be stated loud and clear - it's the REASONS why you do those things. Not necessarily that you do these 30 things.

Like I do many things because as mentioned, it's kind of necessary to keep my job AND good, helpful etiquette towards customers/management has given me a good reputation. It's not entirely a mask as I do like helping but I'd say I play it up a little for my own benefit. But if a customer really annoys me once I'm off the phone I can easily turn to my coworkers and complain. Also as a very introverted person I mostly let other people do the talking and am not particularly good at improv in TTRPGs for example, but I can still easily talk with anyone about a variety of subjects. But these sorts of things are things that happen every so often in certain situations.

But I think a key take away I get from the way he's talking about this is that you do this ALL the time, with pretty much everyone. Or you're avoiding certain things not just because they're midly annoying/slightly uncomfortable and you prefer to do something else, but because it's utterly unbearable to do so. Like wearing comfier clothes, avoiding small talk or social situations - I do all of those and lots of people do. But if I have to do the thing the autistic person is avoiding it's kind of whatever, my day might kind of suck and I move on. NBD. I probably don't even think about it that much, or maybe it ends up being a good thing if I find common ground with a person there or something. Probably not the case if you're actually autistic I would imagine.

Holy moly, yes! People love talking about themselves so much that I can “know” a person for years without them ever knowing me in return. They’ll tell me their life story but never ask me a single personal question. And that’s just fine by me.

Let's not forget the urticating feeling of being at an event at your work place and the organizer says: "we prepared a fun game to make us all get to know each other!"

From "I'm normal, but a bit weird" to "it looks as if I'm high sensitive" to "probably adhd but definitely not autistic" to "damn, I think I do might have autistic traits, but I don't think I'm masking much, I mostly avoid situations" to watching this video and "f**
Thank you for your work. It helps me to discover myself
