i also love that Alice's health being shown as a bed of roses is extremely poignant - Bumby is attempting to gain control over Alice so he can sell her into prostitution, so if Alice succumbs to her insanity in Wonderland, then she is deflowered, and will be forced to endure a horrific fate due to Bumby's depravity

I should also mention in the cake bit, a lot of people emotionally eat to destress, and this overeating often results in guilt. I find the parallels in that scene very interesting.

For as horrifying as he is, the Executioner had my favorite gag. Bro basically goes "Oh shit" when she's bigger than he is

I believe it was SuperHorrorBro who also pointed out that the way you fight the enemies in the DollHouse is symbolic of what Bumby does to the orphans
Namely, first breaking down their defenses, then undressing them and finally destroying their heart. Heck, one of the main entrances in that area is through a hole in a doll's private parts. So yeah, everything there screams "this man is a provider for pedos" basically.
It's my favorite game of all time, the attention to detail is astonishing and it saddens me immensely that EA of all companies owns this franchise. Why have a deep and detailed psychological game that's basically a work of art when you can have sports game clone #1837 haha greed go brrrrr

I have maladaptive daydreaming which is what I believe Alice has instead of schizophrenia. It’s almost exact, different worlds that revolve solely around you the more stressed in real life the worse the world gets and the more ur involved in it. Alice in madness perfectly represents the dark side of maladaptive daydreaming

If you were going to diagnose Alice, you could say she's a maladaptive daydreamer.

I actually think the melding of Chinese and Japanese themes, especially in Radcliffe's real world house, is historically correct. Colonizing countries as a whole have a tendacy to lump any remotely similar cultures and traditions from geographically similar regions together. The whole of asia was just called "the orient" for quite some time, so having a fascination with the "oriental" could have been with any traditional objects and/or customs from india to japan, despite the high diversity of culture between the two. I don't think it was meant to insinuate that the two are actually interchangeable, but instead goes along with the game's dedication to realistically portraying the attitudes and practices of Victorian England. I'm not an expert, and have no idea what I'm talking about as a general rule, but considering you seem to have focused in on how well the game portrayed social and cultural norms regarding women and mental illness, it wouldn't suprise me to know that this choice was intended to portray the attitude of the time in matters of culture and/or race.

Great video so far, at 40 minutes in, I'm finding it quite informative and engaging. thank you for taking the time to make these videos, and doing such extensive research about the topics you discuss. :)

The cake scene where she grows big is the only time she really smile even tho it’s more of a smirk it still shows how she grows as a person

To this day this is still one of my all time favorite games, the art, the music, the STORY are all so well done. Its such a shame EA games refused to give the rights back to American McGee who actually wanted to continue the series 😢
