As soon as a brand is "acquired" it's only a matter of time before the quality disappears and possibly even goes out of business. There are so many examples of this, not just in the outdoor sector.

Unfortunately there are far too many in Britain that cannot afford the £200+ for waterproof jackets from brands that the outdoors press often recommend. So it is good that Regatta, Mountain Warehouse, Sports Direct, and Decathlon sell outdoors kit for affordable prices so people can enjoy our great outdoors.

I think Buffalo deserved a mention here I've had one of their smocks for 15 years and it's still going strong

It's taken me many years of my life to realise that when it comes to brands to choose for equipment and clothing, look no further than the people that push them to their limits. Farmers with their Barbour wax jackets, mountain rescue using Keela etc. <br>Then when it comes to technology, depending on the function, and as much as you might like to not do, follow the popular brands as you'll find many more updates/hacks/accessories for them that what might actually be a better basic item in the first place. Of course if it's a standalone product that doesn't really need any updates or to interact with other devices, just pick the brand that does what you need at your price point.

I'm a big 6'2" guy and have never found a single Rab item that fits me. Shout out for the nosilfe Craghopper shirts, though. I've worn them on the Galapagos islands and the Ecuador jungle, and they were great. Comfortable, super quick drying, and no mozzie bites (though you should be spraying anyway)

Bought a Keela waterproof jacket over 30 years ago, used it in extremes and still use it today. I'd never heard of them but saw their stand at an exhibition and checked out their products, no hard sell just quiet confidence in their products. Good company.

I've had my Paramo Analogy jacket for about 20 years. It is used when needed only, its still going strong. My Keela fleece jacket must be 25 years old now. But its a bit tight and hasn't been used for a few years, but I know it will still fit and be useable for when I lose weight.

Love my Paramo smock. Have had it for decades. Just needs washing and reproofing and is as good as new. Plus they say you are only a custodian of a Paramo garment, they last and last and then you pass them on. Brilliant company.

What I have found with waterproof jackets is that they all leak at some point, I have had them all over the years, goretex, pertex, event etc. they will hold off the rain for a certain amount of time then they just become saturated, I stand by RAB for their soft shell pants and jackets, I have hammered them, still own some I have had for 15 years, their down jackets are very good, or at least the ones I have had. It’s good that they have different quality at different price point to make the great outdoors accessible to all, please respect our natural world, it’s our life support system 🙏
