  When I suggested to a female gp recently, that my migraines were more unpredictable because I am in perimenopause and my so my oestrogen levels are fluctuating hugely and erratically, she told me adamantly that cannot be the case because oestrogen steadily declines not fluctuates through perimenopause… I walked away once again feeling horrified at our gp services.

  To all the GP's reading this please stop prescribing SSRI's citralopram etc for women who clearly need appropriate support and help, it is just lazy and this can lead to severe breakdown and sadly suicide. We must and can do better than this.

  Can we please not forget that perimenopause can start ten years earlier in neurodivergent women! We feel even more gaslit by the industry

  I saw a sad missing person documentary years ago about a much-loved teacher of around 50 who just disappeared. Her partner was so baffled and distressed. She was found in some woodland, having taken her own life. 😢

  Peri menopause caused me insomnia which was making getting through the day really hard. I was 42 and although they told me I was young thankfully my GP prescribed me HRT straight away and my sleep returned to normal. Thankfully I never had any depression but some of my friends really struggled. Advocate for yourself and demand HRT!

  I had debilitating symptoms of adrenaline rushes, confusion and hallucinations and was bed ridden for days at a time, I knew it was hormonal because I would have episodes every 2 weeks each episode lasting between 5 and 7 days. <br>I had seen eight GP&apos;s and asked if these symptoms were perimenopause I was told absolutely no and was offered benzodiazepines and antidepressants. I was even sent for cancer screening which turned up nothing. I was given multiple blood tests, a heart monitor, scans and X-rays all negative. <br>My resting heart rate went form 55 to 90 in 1 month and at breaking point I asked my husband to take me to the GP and he was adamant that we weren&apos;t leaving until I was prescribed HRT. I got the prescription that day and my symptoms improved within a week. <br>Sometimes it takes a man to get the point across 🙄 My husband told me I&apos;m not taken seriously because I&apos;m too calm, I believed explaining my symptoms accurately and rationally would be better than becoming hysterical. <br>We&apos;re both utterly disgusted at this reality in 2026, I had to have a male chaperone at 45 years of age to be taken seriously by my doctors. What will it take to improve women&apos;s health care? I don&apos;t know but something needs to change, women are dying because these symptoms can be absolutely unbearable.
