  This video is such a relief for parents! Society puts so much pressure on us to teach ABCs and numbers as early as possible. It makes so much sense that emotional regulation, physical play, and symbolic thinking are the actual foundations for real learning. Thank you for this brilliant perspective!

  I played with my children and grandchildren and they learned through playing and singing songs. I was the oldest of five children and learned by having a mother that played with us and singing the ABC’s and she made up a little song on how to spell our names. I continued her pattern and didn’t push but just exposed them as they grew older to phonics and math thru play! The Granddaughters loved deciding which doll was having a birthday. We set up a store with toys and books and prices for the other dolls to choose as a gift. The girls were the mother and each had a purse with real coins in it and each item cost real money. They loved the learning games it lasted all day. My sons played other games with car races and building things. By the time the children were entering kindergarten they were using phonics, reading, could spell small words, tell time on an old clock, add and subtract, count to over 100, make change for a dollar with real money, had social skills with friends and adults. You can make a real difference in your children’s lives if you spend time with them. Play board games with them and let them lose and they’ll learn to be a gracious winner and how to loose and not have a melt down. The first learning game I used was a Disney Pop-O-Matic &nbsp;game. They don’t make it any more but you can buy it on eBay. It is a puzzle game with numbers 1-5. Young children love pressing the popper down and seeing the die jump around. If you have an older child have them call out the number and a younger child will quickly learn to recognize the number and pick out the correct puzzle piece. I just turned 80 and the best advice I have for mothers is get off your phone and play with your children! Teach them old math and when they do new math have them check the answers by doing the same problem using old math and see if they get the same answer. 😂

  Just be parents who love and spend time with their kids, and stop thinking that you need to lay grounds for academic achievement rather than just rearing up a good and happy person.
