As a grandparent with Japanese grandchildren and Canadian grandchildren I appreciate the cultural differences but i think as long as the parent strives to be the best parent they can be, the child will grow up secure and succeed in his or her own way. Love is the stable ground on which the child can build on.

Treating children as individuals with their own needs and with dignity is so important!

Keeping electronics away from babies and children is the best thing to do and use hands on development techniques like with things like building blocks.

The line “He’s already two, of course he can do it” hit hard. Most parents think love means doing everything for the child, but maybe real love is trusting them before the world says they’re ready.

I believe the school system in Japan also gives the students tasks making them responsible for maintaining the school.

You can still talk in a positive, sing song voice while using big words in complete sentences with infants and toddlers. I did that with all five of my children, including triplets. They are now successful adults, or teenagers who are in leadership at school and have 4.0 or higher GPAs. 😊

I don’t know about Japan much but this is all we do here in Assam, India.

My favourite is seeing toddlers toddling along in Japanese shopping centres while their mother deliberately stays 10 feet behind them, just watching, allowing the child to make their own decisions, exploring the world at their own pace. Kid strolls along happily, looking around with interest, confidently, like "I'm alone - and I'm fine"

Raising children like we did one hundred years ago. No baby talk, chores early, constant holding and hugging, real food, not puree from a jar. I don't think children bathed and slept with parents, but many slept in the same room near the parental bed (trundle beds). Lots of little chores around the house for children,

5:43 Another way to do this is to read to them. Studies have shown that children who are read books to when they are younger have a higher literacy rate than those who weren’t. 2 year olds may not understand a lot of the words at first, but it pays off over time.

My 1 year old baby girl is breastfed, co-slept, and I talk to her in full sentences. Her first foods were real fruits and egg daily for the DHA. By 8 months she can already feed herself and we stopped spoon feeding her.
