Earl's right that coil cleaning is housekeeping, not rocket science, and the DIY method he describes is solid for a reasonably maintained unit. The honest caveat he buries toward the end is the one worth flagging though: frost on the line or oily residue means stop and call someone. Those aren't cleaning problems. And if your unit is 12-15 years old and running harder than it used to even after a good cleaning, that's worth a professional diagnostic before the compressor decides for you mid-July. A tech checking refrigerant charge, capacitor health, and amp draw is a different conversation than coil cleaning. ARS / Rescue Rooter is one option to compare for that kind of inspection, though availability and pricing vary by location. Get a written estimate and ask specifically what they're testing, not just what they're cleaning.

When I see something like this, it tells me preventative maintenance was not done for a long time and the unit not even being looked at to see something wrong. Hum, someone not doing their job if it got this bad.

after watching a number of your videos, where you told how long you worked at that motel (with Walt) and I HAVE to ask, how did the coil get that dirty unnoticed?!

If you don’t have time for prevention you should have lots of money for repair or replacement. Which is easier for you?

Tell the mower punk to discharge the other way or you will kick dat azz. I spray Simple Green full strength on everything, let it sit, rinse, every early spring. Done.

i have wind blown sand hitting my outide cooling unit for the house. During the season of wind is our hot time. Ive used deflectors and that deflects alot, but if you know sand it always gets in where you dont want it. Ive noticed on any bare metal to aluminum material the sand not only is abrasive from striking metals but when it gets wet the minerlas in the sand are etremely crorrosive to steel and aluminum fence posts especially when one or the other is wet. You cant completely get the sand out with a pressure washer. Alot yes,but not all and that is the problemo, The aluminum fins will still corrode where the sand remained any solutions ?

You’ll need roughly a dozen spray cans of coil cleaner… seriously ! You’re spraying the outside and inside throughly. Then gently hose it off.
