  Thorium reactors can also consume other nuclear waste, both from medical use and what could be used in nuclear weapons. And the design cannot go into runaway meltdown. Thorium is more common than uranium. Thorium reactors are win win on all fronts compared to uranium.

  also thing is that most of power plants are owned by private companies and they want for electricity to be expensive, not cheap.

  And it's not just nuclear. China has built and is building massive hydropower capacity; they dominate in wind and solar; and in the batteries that will store this energy; and in clean(ish) coal generation, and in production of biodiesel, and in the burning of trash to generate electricity. And they design and build all their own equipment, and mine, process, and refine all the elements that go into it. And, just as important, they dominate the world in high capacity/low loss electricity transmission, and in Smart Grid technology, all monitored and controlled by AI, which they develop at about one tenth the US equivalent price for the same performance.

  It took China 10 years from 1GW to 2GW, 5 years from 2GW to 3GW and 2.5 years from 3GW to 4GW, and now they have Thorium power station. You know why America chose Uranium over thorium? Because you can't use Thorium to make bombs.

  Thorium has always been a game changer and I have been watching the plant in the Gobi until they refueled it while running. That means they have done it. My concern was corrosion but they have overcome this issue. Safe Thorium Molten salt reactors are the holy grail - these can even power ships. My only concern is the amount of modern nuclear plants planned and how Thorium fits into this schedule. Thorium reactors are safe and produce not fissionable material, so exporting modular Thorium reactors is  completely feasible.

  The single biggest factor for the prosperity of a nation is the cost of electricity. Once a nation can get the cost of electricity down enough for it's citizens, it's citizens take that nation to higher and higher levels. Everything flows from cheap power, and data centers are only going to make this a bigger issue into the future.

  The idea of keeping the skills needed to build nuclear power plants going with the next project seems so strange to the western model. The cost overruns is quite literally due to letting the workers who built something go without continuing on the next. You lose that skill and have to relearn it with every new project, which ends up with building everything bespoke. Thank you for saying the real reason China managed this.
