  I’ve know about Thorium since physics classes in college (1961-1971). The Elemental Tables made me curious enough to read about thorium and I found out it is super abundant throughout the world, radioactive but safe &nbsp;no nuclear waste, and will not lead to nuclear disasters like Chernobyl. After World War II the USA had a choice between clean thorium and uranium but chose uranium because it could be used to make bombs. The military / industral complex at work. 🥺 it’s not new just ignored, hopefully.

  Oak Ridge had a low pressure molten salt thorium reactor operating for decades. <br>The key difference is “low pressure”. The US went with light water reactors in the 50’s, because the military wanted the ability to produce plutonium, and the depleted leftovers for projectiles.

  Just a quick note on the challenge of molten salt thorium. &nbsp;A primary challenge of nuclear engineering is anything that is a structure or mechanism that is exposed to fission products and radiation will degrade. &nbsp;Molten salt reactors exposes large surface areas and mechanisms directly to fission products and radiation.
