My son lives in Denver and does a lot of hiking. I've been on him about getting a hypothermia blanket and water purifying tablets. Can't imagine letting my child move all alone way back during thiese times.

Laura Ingalls Wilder described the barely survivable conditions in one of her excellent books. The Long Winter? I don’t recall the title but golly, it brought home to me how slender was the thread the people in that era were working with. Those mountain men were amazing. Nice job, sir.
