  One of my mentors was sent there because ‘it was safe’ for new recruits. On the 50th anniversary of the battle I was speaking with him about the experience and he still had guilt about passing out the first time he saw live fire action. War is not glory, it’s random to those who have to fight was his sediment.

  My grandpa was in the Battle of the Bulge, and he did survive. It took a lot out of him and changed him though. He suffered “shell shock” what we recognize as PTSD today.
