  Nobody in America can claim they've worked for 30 years and NEVER had a day off, never got sick, never attended a funeral during a week, worked every weekend for 30 years.  I call bullshit!

  I live in the US and get 30 days a year. We can also cash our days out, where we don’t take them and get the cash for them instead. Most people take a week off then cash out the rest.

  5.6 weeks off is over 10.7% of the year. An employer would have to hire an extra person for every 9 they hire just to cover paid holidays/time off. A start up or expanding company would really have weigh to pros and cons about expanding or hiring more people. In America, you offer what you want as compensation and people either take it or they don&apos;t. If you don&apos;t offer good benefits, you&apos;ll end up with lesser qualified/motivated people. But in a free market, that&apos;s the kind of wager you have to make. A few startups begin with very little pay, lots of hours, no time off and if the company fails, everybody just wasted their time. But in cases like Microsoft, those beginning employees, 12,000 of them, ended up as millionaires within eleven years or less.<br>When you&apos;re young and single is the time to play the career roulette game. When you have people depending on you, not so much.<br>There&apos;s an idea in America, sometimes true, sometimes not, that the more you prove to your employer that you&apos;re not needed, the more likely they&apos;re going to realize that you&apos;re not needed.

  I always worked in hospitals and nursing homes where it&apos;s not possible to let all the staff have off on a holiday. The employees usually took turns having holidays off, so that you&apos;d be required to work every other holiday. Or you could volunteer to work the holiday if you wanted to, giving you double time in your paycheck. Prior to having children, that&apos;s what I would normally do.

  Love how the woman who works in San Francisco claims the US cost of living is much higher than in the UK. News Flash!! The cost of living in San Francisco is higher than most of the rest America! She shouldn&apos;t make generalizations after just one year in one of the costliest cities in perhaps the costliest state in America. I&apos;d &nbsp;bet she could have found a comparable job in a far less costly location. But Brits have an idealistic idea of America based on movies and TV. They want to live the movie, not the reality.

  The Federal Government has no say in private companies benefits or mandatory vacation rules or retirement benefits! Every time Government meddles with privately owned businesses those businesses fail! &nbsp;Everything is a negotiation between management and employee! &nbsp; THAT&apos;S WHY EVERYTHING IS VASTLY MORE EXPENSIVE &nbsp;AND IN LIMITED QUANTITIES IN THE SOCIALIST SYSTEMS OF THE EU and UK! &nbsp;IF THE WORKERS DON&apos;T LIKE WHAT MANAGEMENT DOES THE WORKERS CAN EASILY FIND EMPLOYMENT ELSEWHERE!-😂😂

  There are all kinds of jobs you can get in America Without a degree and people all around the USA have swimming pools. People will work whatever jobs they can until they want to do something &nbsp;different . 👍🏼
