Living tiny is such a personal journey...for some, it’s about the freedom of low costs, and for others, it’s about the challenge of construction and zoning!
If you're ready to start your own path, I’ve put together a 'Start Here' guide to help you navigate the basics: https://tinyamericandream.com/starthere

I’d love to hear from more of you: What’s the ONE thing holding you back from moving into a shed home this year? Or if you're already doing it, what's been your biggest surprise?

I've been living in my 375 sq ft mini house since 2017, almost nine years now. I have a washer and dryer, full sized refrigerator, and even an 18 inch dishwasher. I was a landlord for fifteen years prior to that, so I did know some plumbing and electrical basics, but most of everything I've done is thanks to the University of YouTube. Here's my big secret to living small: Buy two sheds. One to live in, and one for all of the tools and small appliances and "might need it someday" stuff. Though I did I sell my hoarder box of adapters and cords in 2023 at my yard sale. Got six bucks for it.

I got a tiny cabin in 2022, retired, and I don’t regret it. I paid cash for my shed, land, septic system, water system and electric. When purchased my 3.55 acres in Louisiana and start off grid first. After my first real winter with the cost of gas, propane, kerosene and butane was an understatement. It cost more to live off grid than on grid. I was over smelling all those gases. Now, having electricity is much cheaper. I have been in my tiny shed to home for three years and love it. For extra storage space I purchased a metal shed the same size. What would I change in this journey that would be getting a larger shed for all my stuff. This tiny space keeps me from buying stuff that I don’t need.

I am a 68 year old widow. I live in a retired ambulance and I love it. The cabinets and exterior storage is amazing. I can change my scenery or my neighbors at will. I get to see the most beautiful places this country has to offer! My house is tiny, but I have the biggest back yard you can imagine.

For me, I'm thinking of it, I lost my husband last year, and currently I'm only using the kitchen, bathroom and master bedroom in this house, once we've cleared out the clutter in the house, I won't need that much more space to live in, so might as well go tiny.
