  we met an american couple in Turkiye several years ago. Nice couple, they had saved up for 4 years, taking no PTO in that time, they were both earning $50,000 pa.<br>my wife and i were earning about £40,000 between us.<br>they rarely holidayed, had a nice house back in the us, no kids yet, (too expensive) we had 2 boys, little sods to be honest. a complete drain on resources. (of course we had to love them!)<br>we got very friendly with them, &nbsp;and even tried to arrange to meet them the folowing year in Turkiye.<br>sadly, they said it would take them several ytears to afford the type of &quot;vacation&quot; that we, as a poor english couple with 2 kids, &nbsp;could manage twice a year.<br>taint always about what &nbsp;you earn, often where you live matters more!

  In the UK you are not paying four or five hundred a month for healthcare. Plus there is no risk of bankruptcy for healthcare bills.

  It isn&apos;t actually a pay cut. You probably end up with around the same amount of expendable income as you don&apos;t have to pay out as much in the UK. Cost of living is lower than the US. I think in the US you have to pay some ridiculous insurance (or something like) when you have a house. In the UK, you buy the house and then just go out and find buldings and content insurance which is nowhere near as expensive. People are paying $12k a year for health insurance, and still have co pays, &nbsp;whereas it comes out at source in the UK. Car payments and insurance are also ridiculous in the US and most of the population are reliant on a car. In the UK, especially the cities, people don&apos;t even own cars as public transport is good enough.

  One job I had they gave you an extra day for each year you worked there, up to 5 years. &nbsp;So we had a allowance of 20 days, plus bank holidays of 8 days, plus 5 years of extra days equals 33 paid days holiday a year.
