Most of the questions can be answered quite easily:
1. We are civilised.
2. We are intelligent.
Both concepts are quite foreign to people from the USA, I'm afraid. If it's so baffling to you. perhaps you should just go home.

Americans think they’re rage bating, and the rest of the world understand proper banter.

Inflection and/or tone are everything in British communication.

Nice one. A Scandi friend of mine was amused and baffled by the LED panel on the front of a regional bus which stated "Sorry - I'm not in Service". Said bus was transiting to its next deployment and not carrying passengers. Scandi friend asked why an inanimate object (a bus) would apologize. She made a fair point. As stated in the video when someone in the UK apologizes it's not always a literal apology.

British sarcasm example. So, the other day I was returning home from a shopping trip. I was about to turn into the narrow road leading to my cottage when a car was coming towards me. I hung back so he had space to reach the junction easily. What normally happens is that the other driver puts up a hand or nods the head and smiles, to thank me for being considerate. The other driver, an old bloke, did neither. This was bloody rude. So,as he passed me,I called through my open car window,to his open car window, with a friendly smile "You're welcome".
He knew then the faux pas he'd made and at least looked slightly shame faced as he made his turn at the junction.

After Queen Elizabeth II died people queued up to pay their respects and it could take hours but no-one pushed in or behaved inappropriately. David Beckham queued up like everyone else and he was widely praised for doing so whilst some Z list nobody's who tried to jump in front were widely criticised and rightly so. It's not a choice, it's about respect for other people and yourself.

Sorry can be a rebuke. If someone says something you think objectionable, you can say SORRY?!

Sometimes sorry can be used when the other person should have said sorry and didn’t.
