Fun Fact: This was the last song Jim Morrison recorded. He went to France and died a few weeks later. The single was released in June 1971, shortly before Morrison's death.

A cassically trained pianist, a jazz drummer, a flamenco guitarist and a Poet. 500 years from now, people will still be listening to The Doors along side other timeless musical geniuses like Beethoven and Mozart. It just doesn’t get old.

Ray Manzarek on keyboard. Also, often, Ray Manzarek on bass, playing the bass line on keys with his left hand while he played the keyboard part with his right hand, simultaneously, because The Doors did not have a bassist. He usually did that in live performance. They did hire session bassists for studio work. Morrison was the soul and mind of the band, but Manzarek was the reality and responsibility of it. He kept it all together and working. Also, Morrison occasionally went off on riffs, but he did actually write his songs. He was a really rather brilliant poet. Sometimes, one of the other guys wrote, and sometimes they collaborated - example, Light My Fire. You can always spot a collaboration because a normal song will suddenly get weird and intense, and those bits will be Morrison's lyrics. I suspect the band didn't really like it when he went off on riffs because he was so drunk most of the time, they never knew what he would say or if he'd get himself arrested again.

Aldous Huxley's book on mescaline, The Doors of Perception, is where The Doors got their name from!

Inspired by a line from William Blake's poem,The Marriage of Heaven and Hell, “If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is, infinite,” the band found their name. At first they called themselves The Doors of Perception, but soon shortened their name to simple, “The Doors”.
