Well done Kim. In 1989 when this movie came out every graduate had "Carpe Diem" on their caps. Robin has said in interviews that this was one of his favorite roles because of the message, and it's definitely my favorite. Some of the cast, including Ethan Hawke, have said in interviews that they could see some of Robin's mental struggles even back then. What a verse he contributed. RIP Captain my Captain.

I was in Paris when I heard Robin had passed, back home I bought a DVD of Dead Poets having seen it once. After the movie there were extras one of which spoke to many actors in it asking what effect that movie had had on their lives. Kurtwood Smith said he's sometimes asked why he acts, its a precarious profession, he said re Dead Poets, he went to the opening, with him was one of his male friends who happened to have a relationship with his son as he had with Neil. The lights went down, the movie played, the lights went up and his friend was sobbing, he'd recognised his own relationship with his son in the movie. Smith said that from that moment on he changed how he treated his son, so this acting thing can and does change lives.

The characters from Dead Poets Society stayed with me the most; was Mr. Keating and Todd, the shy guy turned poet. Todd shows the most growth throughout the film. In large part because of Mr. Keating's inspirational teaching methods. 👍

Knew you’d love this one! To have that level of impact and inspiration on those young lives, is more important than money or prestige.

Im a poor bloke. I grew up in a large catholic family. We had no money, and I didn't know it. But my Uncle was a track champion at Cornell University(he was an Irish kid from NYC who was Ivy League Champion at 400 and 800m) and he knew the Deans and Athletic Directors at the school. As a Track guy and good student, I soon found myself a Freshman at Cornell. Surrounded by Private School grads, I suddenly discovered I was actually a poor boy that didn't belong. I made myself belong. And after completing Biology, Chemistry, Advanced Algebra and several other requirements, I took a few English classes with authors and renowned English professors. It was the greatest experience to study poets and playwrights. Robin made the importance of discovering life so tangible in this movie. It's a masterpiece. Thanks for exploring this subject and film. And yes death is a necessary part of the richness of life. Thanks again.

When Neil is shouting "I got the part! I'm gonna play Puck!" the one kid shouting "Puck you!" is hilarious. 😂😂

@44:23 He knew that Todd was struggling with himself & to express himself.
Yes. Keating also knew, being a former student at Welton, that Jeffrey Anderson, Todd's elder brother was a famous star student at Welton, & that both the parents and the school always compared Todd unfavorably to his elder brother (we even saw/heard the principle Nolan telling Todd, in front of his parents, that he has big shoes to fill in the opening minutes of the movie). Todd was always reminded that whatever he does it can't shine against the big shadow of his older brother.
