“What’s damaged in the relationship must be healed in the relationship.” This is very hard when dealing with an avoidant.

I believe this whole "attachment style" is basically just trauma and someone being triggered during conflict or perceived threat. The solution: feel your triggers, care for them. Be your own solid person. Then decide if the relationship is worth pursuing or not. Everything done from a state of fear will be delusional anyways, its impossible to know if you truly want to be with someone when it feels like your life depends on them. Yes we need each other, but we don't need each other to simply be safe and alive. We don't need each other to feel our own feelings or self soothe. Its very healthy to co-regulate, but we need to learn how to self regulate as well. In my experience also, feeling triggered and manic about someone "abandoning you" can also be a sign that the relationship in itself is unhealthy from the beginning. Sometimes even abusive. How can you know if someone is treating you poorly or if your boundaries are out of whack if you are preoccupied with your own fear and what the other person is doing/not doing etc? You can't. So you need to calm down, then look at the whole thing from an outside perspective. And sometimes this reveals that your partner is actually the reason you feel so triggered all the time.

This is me since I was a teen! Always saying hurtful things. Calling people out on their hypocrisy when I feel threatened. Then trying to save it.

I had this attachment style and I am heading towards being more securely attached. I learned to set healthy boundaries and announce them and communicate my needs well when some people insist on cross my boundaries or ignore my needs (I tend to their own needs also it's not like I dont care about them) I communicate clearly but if after all of this these people dont respect my boundaries or my needs, I just LEAVE.<br>I dont like to be taken for granted anymore.

I am terrified of intimacy but desperate for it. I can’t interact romantically with anyone out of this sense of danger but I feel almost physical pain at the aloneness. My system avoids because it knows how painful and anxious the whole experience is.

The worst part of this nightmare is when you realize you took on all the parents thoughts, feelings, behaviors and forms of connection with others because it was so freaking confusing....
