  Hey guys, just a note on one of the first topics in the video, I rendered the video right as Sound Transit announced a different date for the opening of the Link Light Rail 2 Line extension. The date has been moved up in fact to March 28th. Kicking myself a bit that I couldn't fix it in time, but such is life I guess.

  The fact that Texas has managed to expand transit pretty effectively in the last 30 years against all odds is definitely inspirational

  It&apos;s not just that Lake Washington is too muddy. The bigger issue is that the lake is SUPER deep. The lake is 214 feet at its lowest point, and to reach bedrock (which would be required to build a stable bridge), they&apos;d have to dig hundreds of feet deeper.

  Would be good to cover MARTA’s rollout of its entire new Stadler train sets in Atlanta this year too! They are super cool trains and go hand-in-hand with new train control systems, new fairgates with tap-to-pay, and a redesigned bus network

  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2yVOCtemo0&amp;t=290">4:50</a> In 2021 we saw the Northgate Link Extension, then in 2024 we saw the 2 Starter Line and Lynnwood Link Extension, in 2025 we had the Downtown Redmond and Federal Way Extensions<br><br>The history behind the Crosslake extension is actually really cool. Back when i90 was being planned, it was initially supposed to be a 14-lane monster that would have two additional bridges built next to the existing Lacey V. Murrow. This plan also included additional freeways like the RH Thompson Expressway and the Bay Freeway. A freeway revolt led by the Seattle Black Panther Party successfully cancelled all new freeways except the i90. The i90 was shrank down to be just one additional bridge with 4 general purpose lanes carrying westbound traffic and the existing bridge would carry eastbound. The freeway revolt also said WSDOT could build two additional express lanes but they had to be built for &quot;future rail rapid transit&quot;<br>i90 was built around the time the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel was built which is why almost the entire 7-mile segment between Chinatown Station and South Bellevue Station was built with i90 and retrofitted for Link including the decent into the DSTT (this is why the connection has that weird little ramp going to Seattle Blvd). The only segment built new for link was the short flyover connecting to South Bellevue Station
