  I took Amtrak out of 30th Street Station for the first time when I was just 10 years old, and I am glad I did when I did, because I got to see the flip board in action.

  30th Street Station is a tremendous piece of infrastructure. Notice how the trains traverse zoo and 30th street with ease. Great engineering!

  At one time the Market Street line was elevated and crossed the river on a bridge until 29th Street then going into the tunnel. This ended circa 1956.

  I'm also old enough to remember what the suburban platforms were like in the 1970s and early 80's. All that beautiful overhead glass work letting through all that light? That all still had black paint on it from World War II! They had never gotten around to cleaning it off after the war concluded. It looked dingy overhead because the black paint had stripped away in places. The platforms were considerably darker than they are today. It looked SO much better on that platform when they finally found the money to clear away all the old black paint. I wish I remembered when that was, but I'm pretty sure it was some time in the mid-late 1980s.
