  Not only is Peter an incredible composer and lyricist, he’s also one of the greatest champions of World Music, having created Real World music studio/label and WOMAD.

  That remarkable backup singer is Paula Cole, she has a solo career as well - her vocals throughout that series of concerts were fantastic and elevated Peter’s arrangements.<br><br>Also worth noting, the bassist, Tony Levin, is a former member of King Crimson, he is a great musician and brings a lot of energy to live performances.

  Peter went to Africa because he wanted to understand Carl Jung&apos;s experiences there. He came up with the album Security as a result. Particularly &quot;The Rhythm of the Heat&quot; expresses much of what Jung documented in his journals. He was then hired by Scorsese to do the sound track for The Last Temptation of Christ. He used nothing but instruments available in the region 2 millennia ago. If you listen to his music then and since you&apos;ll notice an extreme emphasis on percussion he adopted from that exposure. You&apos;ll notice he uses very little cymbal crash, at least not to the extent that others do. And of course his band is often comprised of African musicians and those who incorporate those rhythms. <br>He was of course a trailblazer in his song about Stephan Biko, and bringing attention to the horror of South African apartheid. Peter Gabriel is not just an extraordinary musician, he&apos;s helped to give a voice to those who never had one. Peter went to Africa and I don&apos;t think he ever came back.

  FYI. The dance moves aren’t cheesy, they are very intentional and part of the spiritual experience for everyone involved including the audience and are tied to the world music aspect of the extraordinary piece of art.

  Manu Katché on drums, Tony Levin on bass guitar, Papa Wemba and Paula Cole on backing vocals...some of my favourite musicians on this stage.
