When I was in trouble from a strange man in a parking lot, it was 6 women, total strangers, who rushed to protect me. Men walked by and pretended they didn’t see. When i had my purse stolen in front of the train station (there had been a tussle) it was women who stopped and offered me train fare.

I’ve never had a straight man intervene to save me from another dangerous man. <br><br>I’ve had women and gay men step up and I’ve been that backup for fellow ladies in distress, but straight dudes? Never been a help.

My husband used to say, "I'm only doing this to protect you." He was stealing my money, my paychecks, my bank accounts, my car, my truck, and my home, and making me lose all of my jobs and friends. So, apparently, he was protecting me from having the ability to keep myself alive. (He is now my ex-husband ... and, has been, for a very long time. Yey!)

This epiphany came to me about a month ago <br>Men's protection comes in two forms<br>Extortion- protection for a price ( do this or we won't protect you)<br>Possession- protection of property ( protecting women they see as theirs)

My dad abused me when I was a child so I never fell for the lie that men are protectors. If a man doesn't even protect his own daughter, than he certainly won't protect anyone else.
