To the privileged and unaccountable, equity and accountability feel like a threat.

This is what I taught my son at age 6. It is ok to feel mad but it is not ok to hit or yell. Seems like a LOT of parents failed their sons in not teaching this very basic human interaction...

The moment I realised I didn't respect my ex was when I realised I saw him as a child that I had to coddle and baby all the time or he'd throw a temper tantrum. He was so upset because I didn't want to have sex with him and I was like: there is nothing less sexy than feeling like a mother to this adult dude who should know how to deal with himself.

As a black woman, it frustrates me that most black men can spot racism a mile away; however, they can not see misogyny if it hits them on the head. I don't understand why they can't just see it. For me, as a black woman, it is clear as daylight that these two things are from the same source.

Here's the thing: There are libraries in every city and large town in the USA with books on communication and emotional development. If someone has lived 40, 50, or 60 years of life with discord in relationships yet is unwilling to check out a couple of free books on improving that, then I can't meet you halfway. You simply aren't trying. And like Lisa says in the video, it isn't my job to help you.

Instead of fragility, I think of it as brittleness. Tough, hard and unyielding at first glance, but when tapped in a certain way, they shatter.

My dad is a man like this. I tried to talk to him and help him see another perspective. He’s fragile, inflexible, and extremely misogynistic. If he ever went to a psychologist, he’d probably leave with a diagnosis of ASPD. His mind is very sick, but he covers it with a charm that fools the people it shouldn’t. I had a conversation with him once about the way he beat my cousins. We were teens. Im his daughter. I didn’t like having to witness him beating them and told him he was abusive. He told me he did it intentionally. He’d rather be feared than respected. He was informed that day that I neither feared nor respected him.

I don't respect anyone who would try to bully me into submission. You can't beat it into anyone. It has to be earned every day, and it can be lost in an instant.

A lack of emotional mobility. Stiff and rigid, breaks instead of bends.

Maybe not even screaming when you try to express feelings. Often times, things are twisted, misinterpreted and before you know it, you’re spending more time explaining yourself to save their ego because they take everything so personally. 😕

Thank you for calling out the fact that toxic people, males (and females) react to accountability like an attack. My mom also reacts this way, and then gaslights me while screaming saying that she did absolutely nothing wrong and deflects the conversation to attack me or point out my faults. I have had to live my life with complete accountability, not really because of her, but because I just feel better on the inside. I hate feeling guilt and I hate when my consciousness feels terrible. I feel a greater sense of inner peace when I take accountability. I live like this consistently, and to think that there are all these people walk around doing whatever they want without taking accountability, deluding themselves and others into believing they are blameless, and feeling attacked at the thought of taking accountability is sickening to me.
