A lot of you are asking how to tell which pellet brands are actually independent vs. just different packaging from the same factory network. I mapped every major brand to its real owner and rated them all on build quality, transparency, and warranty behavior in the Grill Buyer's Black Book β the Brand Report Card and the Pellet Grill Breakdown cover exactly this. No sponsors, no affiliate links, just the data β https://tinyurl.com/grillverdict

I use lumberjack. Itβs available at my local rural king. Shouldβve known that Traeger was just a name you were buying. Lumberjack works just fine in my Traeger grill even though Traeger makes the claim that only Traeger pellets will lol!

Smokin Pecan Pellets the only one I will ever use on my Traeger - really good product.

I use Smokin Pecan, and Lumberjack for the most part. However I also have bulk/cheap pellets for the tail end of cooks where all really what I'm looking for is BTU, and they all supply that fine. :)

I read some info about this from an engineer that designed these pellet grills. The programming these grills use to dispense a certain amount of pellets for a certain temperature rise is predicated on even burning and known heat output from the fuel. If you use pure compressed Mesquite wood, It burns differently from pure compressed hickory or pecan tree wood. They needed a way to keep the fuel source math constant. This sounds reasonable to me.

A beneficial side effect was that oak and alder were cheaper.

I mostly agree with this assessment. For many years, I've been using 1. Lumberjack 2. Cookin' Pellets 3. BBQers Delight, but I also like GMG Fruitwood Blend a lot. The most commonly used pellets on the pro competition circuit is BBQers Delight, but I've also seen Lumberjack used quite a bit too, and every now and then, Cook'n Pellets. None of the other brands you listed here - ever! In fact when cooks finished low on all their meats, I've heard people kid with them by saying: "What happened? Did you use Traeger pellets?"
