As a 44 year old woman, I need to let you know that your 20’s are NOT the best years of your lives! You’re still getting to know yourself and discovering what you like, dislike & what you’re not willing to sacrifice….the best years are, honestly, your 30’s!

Gotta remember to engage, ya'll. My friend said that she wants to take me to the St. Louis museum. Do I personally care about St. Louis? Absolutely not. But come time for us to air out our schedules, am I gonna go? Absolutely, 'cause I love me friend and new experiences. On the flip side, I saw people having their friends and family rank characters from my fave gacha game, I had my friends do that. Do they care about my anime boyfriends? Not really, but did we all have fun? YES. That's what friendship is! Pulling up, even for the goofiest of things.

GenZ is making "friendship" far too complicated. Stop remaining disengaged in your own relationships by dissecting every word and action for some inner meaning. Put down the phone. Spit the therapy speak out of your mouth before speaking. Leave the social media pages behind, and be present with the people you are with. And, FFS , please stop comparing yourselves to everyone around you. Where are your own personality, interests, and feelings? Most days with my friends, we share hikes, or rent videos, cook together, or take the pets on walks, etc. We never eat out, or go to "third spaces" where you have to spend a ton of money. I'll give GenZ this: y'all have the ability the overcomplicate the most simple things. Also realize that your 20s are your "F-up" years. You are meant to be messy and conflicted as you figure out who you are and what you want.

Everyone is going through rough patches but quite quitting a friendship is actually so cruel.

The whole " your 20s will be the best or worst years of your life" thing is greatly exaggerated

What is true is that the decade from 16 to 26 is going to be the most intense era with the most change. But sometimes change isn't good or bad it just is

I'm almost 40 and I don't think all of this is to blame on age or even social media. I think we are all burnt out on poor working conditions and we are too in survival mode to have time and energy to make good friendships. Good friendships are hard work and if we are spending all of our energy on a job, there's nothing yet. Even in 2010, I was able to pay rent and go out to drink all the time on a service industry job AND save a little money. I can't imagine many (if any) young folks can so that now.

My number one tip that I learned from my mom in grade 4 is to BE THE PLANNER. don’t sit around waiting for your friends to plan to hang out, cause they’re doing the same thing. You have to make the plans! Set up a monthly game night! When you meet with a friend and say “omg we should totally do this sometime” you should plan with them a date and time to actually DO that! Don’t let the insecurity of “but what if they don’t actually like me and don’t want to be friends and they’re just being nice” get in your head. If they don’t want to hang out with you, they’ll come up with an excuse not to.

Oh and I’m saying all this as an introverted, likely autistic person, who had extreme social anxiety as a child. So if I can do it, you can do it too :)

"I feel like we're confusing validation with feeling understood," LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE AT THE BACK 🗣.

And I want to add that people nowadays are so self-concious of themselves that they don't allow themself to express what their personality actually is.

An example I saw of this was that someone was acting out voice lines for characters, and there was a comment that said, "That's so cringe". Because of such negative attitude, I feel like that perpetuate people in to not actually be themself, and have this facade of being 'picture perfect' because they want to fit in with the "norm".

I feel like people forget we're human beings. We have emotions, different cultures, languages, and traditions that makes us unique. Because of what influencers be posting nowadays, the audience who sees that (especially younger ones), think that what they're seeing is the "norm" and want to conform with it.

Idk.. there's just A LOT of factors that falls into it.

Edit: I also want to mention that with the rampant evolution of technology, people are so chronically online that they forget basic socializing skills IN-person. Not just socializing skills, but respect, basic human decency, and boundaries as well.

The thing is, I don’t even think this is exclusively a Gen z issue.. my parents ask for best advice on how to ghost their friends. It’s an issue in this time period.
