  I knew my friendship was over when the two people I thought were my best friends was going on trips without inviting me and then mention it weeks to months later.

  Honestly, this is why I burned out on the whole "found family" concept very, very early. It is so easy to click right away with someone, and get really close, only to find yourself the only one making an effort stay in touch a few years later. People grow, they move, they pick up new interests, they get promotions that take up more of their time, or eventually start biological families of their own, and you'll be surprised how often that found family becomes a friend group they used to have.

  Nobody talks about though how you could be there for years but miss one or two things and now your friend doesn’t want to deal with you anymore. Let it be that man though and it’s not an issue. Why are we harder on our friends than our partners?

  It can be painful, but most of us are resilient. In time, you adjust. I have outlived my three siblings (I was second of four) and the two friends that I had. As you age, the definition of friendship changes, and we tend to not make new friends. I am blessed to know the Lord, and lean on him when I have my moments.

  I gave up on the whole friend thing when a girl I was very close friends with since Kindergarten randomly ghosted me out if the blue with no explanation. I honestly do respect her choice and boundaries, but it made me realize how fragile these friendships are and how you can spend years building one up just for it to crumble overnight. I don't worry about it anymore, I'm exhausted by trying to maintain them.

  I'm 70 years old now & have lost friends thru death, old age, sickness , some of those friendships were decades long too. It's a good thing I have a family.
