  The 'weekend surcharge' is a normal thing here in Australia. There are legally mandated increased pay rates depending on your industry and which day you work on the weekend, as well as what time of day you're working. It can be up to 250% of your regular hourly rate.

  As a poor person I would never put myself in this situation because the moment I see that the menu doesn't have the price listed on the menu or the total on the screen I'm going to cancel my order and take my business elsewhere.

  If I walk into a coffee/cafe shop and the menu doesn’t have prices, I’m walking out. Because I’ve noticed that that is a manipulation/intimidation tactic that a lot of these new cafe shops are doing. Because these businesses KNOW that majority of people are gonna be too afraid or embarrassed to walk away or say no to paying a ridiculous price for drinks.

  I will forever say my uncle is one of the few people doing a coffee shop right. He just opened his 4th location, all of his prices are fair, the employees are paid $23/hr in a city where minimum wage is $15, and the coffee shops are comfortable. Comfy seats, free books to borrow, free wifi. And the hours are 6am to midnight! They're popular with students for that reason.

  Too many companies want to go viral and don't think about building a loyal customer base which will keep them going for years.  Being overcharged will not lead to loyal regulars.

  I don’t trust any business that don’t clearly display their prices. It makes it easy to make up any price especially if you’re a new patron.

It’s annoying but oh well, i’m just doing my job. I know once we did some drinks cheaper and our team was told off for under charging.
