  Drop the fan blade and it was faster and quieter just watch for prolonged idling.  I did thousands of miles in the side valve a comfortable bench seat and column change that worked just fine.  A smiths heater was luxury

  My dad had a car in the late 1960s/early 1970s.  I don't remember much about it but i think it was a blue/grey colour and oddly, i seem the remember the indicators being on the roof but i can't find anything to verify this.  Anyone on here with a knowledge of old cars shed any light on what type of car it could have been.  Something makes me thing it was a Standard but it's 55 years ago....

  We had a Bradford when I was a little boy in 1950s Australia.....it blew a head gasket on the way up the Great Dividing Range, and i can still remember walking up that mountain...

  Cant remember the Jowett Bradford and if i had seen one in the 1950s i wouldnt have known what it was . Saw plenty of instantly recognisable Jowett Javelins .

  ST90 a &apos;worst&apos; car? <br>Who knew?<br>Sophisticated and sumptious leather interior, art deco lines and a four cylinder engine slightly tuned (could have done with an SU carb) they hold theIr own in today&apos;s traffic. In Alpine form, according to director Alfred Hichcock, one of the prettiest cars in the world. So he put one in &apos;To Catch a Thief&apos;, enhancing the glamour of stars Cary Grant and the lovely Grace Kelly. <br>Some &apos;lemon&apos;!

  In 1960 a mate of mine had a Ford Consul and I remember it well. &nbsp;It was a perfectly fine motor car of that era. &nbsp;The Zephyr Six that followed was a beauty - &quot;The Mighty Six&quot;. &nbsp;I had one but it rusted away so rapidly I could hear it happening!

  Its not often I totally disagree but this is one of them. By todays standards these cars look very dated, are under powered and mechanically primitive. Thats the best that could be done then. The Jowlet (which I dont remember) certainly filled the need for a basic , economic car. &nbsp;My Dad bought a &nbsp;Hillman Minx in 1956, we thought it was luxurious and wonderful. It was one of the first designs to have more modern, rounded, streamlined profilie than the prehistoric designs of the 1930s. The Morris Minor was a funny shape like the Volkswagen Beetle but again filled a need and was hugely popular.
