  Still have a Daf 66 in the shed. I took one a lifetime ago, and turbocharged it. 240bhp in a car with a roll cage which weighed 750kg. Changed steering to 1.5 turns lock to lock. Started 42 events. failed to finish 41. Reliability was not a strong point. Discovered the ideal speed for a reverse flip was 45mph.

  Sweden: my first car was a DAF 323 32 FL daffodil de luxe extra. 1966. Extremely basic but a great car.

  Interesting, though explaining the mechanism while showing closeups of door handles and tail lights is rather unhelpful.

  In Britain, Austin made the Champ.<br>A specialised vehicle for the army.<br>It has five gears.<br>It has a forward, and a reverse gear selector.<br>Being 4wd, it has an engagable and dis-engagable, front drive selector.<br>It needed to be able to drive out of a no through road situation, as quickly as possible. <br>Subject to the driver&apos;s ability, it was capable of forward direction and reverse direction, at the same speed.

  My ex-MIL had a DAF 600 back when I lived in the Netherlands. &nbsp;I drove it quite a lot. &nbsp;It was <b>lots of fun</b> to drive, <b>regardless</b> of the weather--from dry via wet through icy roads. &nbsp;The variomatic was <b>wonderful</b> on icy or hairpin roads!

  I used to have a daf 33 and it was cheap to run and great fun. The transmission worked brilliantly except for the gear shift forward/backward which was clunky. Happy days.

  It was a very good car for its day. The average working person could afford one and simplicityw as necessary<br>This little car seems to be very practical.<br>Not bad looking.

  DAF 55 was the family car for a few years early 80&apos;s. Worked well, looked nice, but was noisy and not fast. It also rusted, but then what car didn&apos;t back then.
