Well let’s look at many of the engines. Many of the engines were actually pre war. I think the Vauxhall was basically a Jtype engine with the largest looking at the big six of 1939 which eventually became the Bedford lorry engine. The other problem with the bodies so I was told by a factory employee was the factory was at the end of Luton air port and the jet engines had fuel spillage on take off all over the delivery car park. The Ford six cylinder was the old unit from the consul style body in round form from post war which had the six in the four cyl body. The BMC had a body with the 1500 four cylinder opened out to 1762 cc. However I think the radiator remained the same. <br>The Rootes were vehicles for aspirant motorists but the Humber engine had its origins in military army vehicles so were really used for convoy work. The big BMC was the C series with Healey options but they had too much weight up front and you could see the drivers sweating on a demo test in front of the public.

The Jaguar was an amazing vehicle and raced well but that was in the hands of racing drivers and Mike Hawthorne lost his on a public road fatally. The P5 Rover was always known as the car for Farmers and senior Bankers. They were also used for Ministers and could have a V8 engine rather than the straight six. The Triumph 2000 was in fact OHV not OHC. Many of the engine failures were by losses on the petrol injection system which gave problems not only to the system but to unfamiliar mechanics. These comments were from an RAC tester who gave some advice to his local force!
