Do you know a teacher dealing with the same problems?

"They're so tech-savvy" No, they aren't. Being a mindless consumer clicking brightly colored buttons on a device doesn't make someone "tech-savvy".

Gen alpha is NOT tech savvy. They know as much as a user interface can display.

It gets even worse because the parents don't care.

My state just held back 7000 students in 3rd graders for not being able to read.

I was browsing at a thrift shop this morning and there was a woman with a little boy (toddler) in her cart. She talked to him about the colors he saw the entire time. He did not have a phone or an iPad and neither did she. This is the way it was in the 90s when I raised my son. Kudos to that wonderful mom who is investing in her son's education and their relationship at the same time!

Administrators are just as useless as your local politicians.

One day, my 10-year-old asked me why other kids get to have phones, iPads, smartwatches, and things. (This is in elementary school, people!) I simply told her that we want more for her than that. I then asked her, Do those same kids who have phones/screens read as well as you do? Do they write as well as you do? Do they pay attention in class, or are they fooling around? She looked at me with a look of astonishment. I could see the wheels spinning in her head, and I realized that they couldn't. I then told her that we, as her parents, want her to do well in life. I also told her that screen time changes your brain, and the more you have it, the lesser you are to use your brain. I think the message was received because she hasn't asked about wanting to have a device for some time now.

We are not facing a child crisis right now; we are facing a parenting crisis. Parents need to step up and show up for their kids! We are all tired from our everyday lives; however, if you are not teaching your children, the world will.

A problem I've noticed with my friends with kids is that they don't want to be their child's parent, but their "friend"

I went to the grocery store the other day and the cashier was a young woman, maybe 17-18. I got over $240 in groceries and I paid in cash. She legitimately COULD NOT count the bills I handed her. She seemed confused I wasn’t paying with a card. Tried for like a minute to count the bills but she kept losing count. She had to call over her manager to simply count the bills for her. How in the world did we get to a point where a CASHIER CANT COUNT MONEY?!?
