  “We don’t expect you to read novels at 9 years old…” I was reading books at 9 years old. I had a library card and my mom would take me and my brother to the library on weekends. I remember starting to read sometime in kindergarten, around k-4 and k-5.

  I hate seeing kids being pushed around in strollers holding iPhones when I’m in public, like if your kid is young enough to be in a stroller don’t put those anywhere near them, let them just experience the world around them

  My son is 9 months old and I flat out refuse to turn on any kids programs/youtube for him to watch. He needs to be moving, exploring his environment and interacting with me and other people. Not sitting still hypnotized by a singing strawberry. Gonna hold out as long as I can on this hill.

  My 10 year old granddaughter can&apos;t tell time. She has adhd, hyperactive type, but I accidentally stumbled upon baking as one of her hyperfocus interests. We now bake every week when she visits. Reading recipe directions and working out measuring is a great skill. &nbsp;Figuring out the baking time on a real clock has encouraged her to work on telling time, she has a way to go, but we are getting there. &nbsp;There&apos;s so many ways to teach children life lessons, you just have to find what interests them, but hours on Youtube isn&apos;t it.

  I work with 16 year olds and they all told me that when Tik Tok went dark for 12 hours they all went through withdrawal symptoms. I can&apos;t convince them that it&apos;s dangerous to be THAT addicted to anything, let alone a constant stream of information and stimulation. I&apos;m not really in a position to tell them when or how to use their phones, but it really makes me sad that they are already so addicted.

  Kids as young as 7/8 <b>should</b> be reading books. &quot;No kids is going to read a book at 9&quot; is such modern bullshit. Even if it&apos;s just chapter books, they should be reading them and reading a lot of them. By 10 they should be reading big books, full classics. The fact that that is seen as stupid or impossible is a huge part of the problem.
