17 Reasons the Stormcloaks Were RIGHT All Along | Skyrim Lore Every Reason to Choose Ulfric Stormcloak 17 Reasons the Empire is Wrong Why you should choose Ulfric Stormcloak in Skyrim So in today’s video, I am going to be steelmanning the stormcloak position. In other words, this video is meant to convince you that ulfric stormcloak was correct. I will be purposefully leaving out arguments to the contrary. If you disagree, understand that I am not saying the stormcloaks are objectively correct. I will also be making a steelman video on the Empire and then one more video where I make the call on the objectively correct answer. I am doing this because I really wanted to get a full picture of the civil war in Skyrim and the only way to really debate for or against any position you have to understand not only your own position, but also the opposite. And that’s why today we’re exploring the 17 reasons to choose the stormcloaks in the elder scrolls 5 skyrim The History of Tamriel Shows the Empire deserves to lose If you look at skyrim’s events from the first person, it can be easy to get lost in the details, but if you go through the history from a top down view, it becomes a lot easier to understand how the empire got itself into this situation through neglect of their provinces and complete lack of management. Let me explain, I will start at the end of the oblivion crisis, with the end of the septim empire and the beginning of the mede empire, where the crimes against the empire’s vassal states begins: The Empire lost control of black marsh after the oblivion crisis because the argonians were on their own to defend themselves. Instead of using their legions to defend the argonian’s lands, the empire retreated nd chose to protect cyrodil instead. After years of collecting taxes and soldiers from black marsh, the empire abandoned them in their time of need. The Empire gave up morrowind in 4th era, year 5 when a volcano erupted violently, killing many dunmer. The next year, the argonians attacked to gain land from the dunmer. The empire, after years of collecting taxes and soldiers from morrowind were not there to defend them in their time of need. The Empire lost control of the summerset isles in year 22 after a coup by the thalmor. The Empire had pulled their troops out during the oblivion crises and never returned them. After years of collecting taxes and soldiers from the Isles, the Empire was not even there to prevent a hostile takeover of the government there. Now, the next major event in the 4th era was the great war which began in 171 and ended with the signing of the white gold concordant in 175. During this time soldiers drafted from Hammerfell, Skyrim and high Rock fought the Thlamor. Thousands died on both sides. It was a long and violent conflict. I want you to listen to how the Empire lost the next nation. Part of the white gold concordant was that something like half of hammerfell was given to the thalmor. Hammerfell rightfully said that was a bullshit deal and refused outright. They declared independence from the empire and fought a war on their own then signed their own treaty with the thalmor to end their war with them. After years of collecting taxes and soldiers from hammerfell, the Redguards had to fight their own war with their own soldiers when they needed the empire most. Now, skyrim begins about 25 years after this. The reason? Well, we could probably say something like: In the year 201, the Empire lost skyrim after 25 years of letting the thalmor wander skyrim and harass nords, killing them and throwing them into prison, the dragon crisis began and the empire fought the Nords in skyrim rather than helping them against the dragons and elves. After years of collecting taxes and soldiers from skyrim, they failed to protect them from the thlmor or dragons when they needed it most, and they declared independence. When you look at it this way, it becomes a lot more clear, doesn’t it? When you look at the 4th era as a whole, you realize the events of skyrim are just one more in a long chain of events. This is not unique. This is not new. This is just the next step in the end of an empire. No one would dare suggest that the argonians, dunmer or redguards swallow their pride and submit to imperial rule. Why do you suggest that the nords do it, then? There are very real problems with how the Empire wants to rule. Here again, the empire wants to take money and soldiers out of skyrim for the empire’s interests and leave the people of skyrim to figure out their own problems. See the bigger picture.
