  During one of my earliest playthroughs of Skyrim, I mentioned to my brother how I was terrified to go in the water because of the slaughterfish, but would anyway because I liked exploring as much as I could. My brother said something along the lines of &quot;You think the slaughterfish are terrifying, wait until you find a slaughterwhale.&quot; I actively avoided the ocean after that.<br><br>It took about a decade before I learned he was messing with me.

  That first lake is definitely for new players who choose argonian, they knew people were going to want to test out water breathing asap so they added points of interest to the first body of water available. As you progress in the game most players will be distracted with other things to look in every body or water and only use water breathing as a utility in dungeons

  The water is always overlooked in skyrim until you get some water breathing potions. i&apos;d find myself just wading around in the water looking for hidden chests. its really atmospheric its kinda amazing

  A theory on the kenopsia experienced in the ocean; often when a large predator is nearby, animals and fish will hide. Perhaps the lack of fish is picked up by your subconscious as there is a threat close.
