The salesman is not going to go back to the tower (or "desk" as you call it) after you say only "interesting." They're going to press you for what that means or what you are thinking and most likely a number to work with. Showing indifference is a great tactic, it's just not going to go down like you described here. This isn't a scripted movie where the 5 thugs only attack the hero one at a time until the hero beats them all, this is reality.
