  I have a home battery but I can&apos;t help but think this cost arbitrage will be temporary. As batteries proliferate the price difference between peak and off peek will evaporate. I understand this is already happening in Australia where the payback for batteries is now far longer due to the smaller difference in price.

  I&apos;ve stopped using my heat pump except first thing and now mostly use fin oil filled electric heaters. I saved $100 on my monthly winter bill here in Australia. I&apos;m all electric by the way.

  Not only smart tariffs, but also those of us who are off-grid and have system batteries that when full and the sun still beating down our systems go into float and dump excess solar energy. It’s not always so simple to add more battery capacity to our exisiting system, recently I have discovered that my existing BYD batteries are being discontinued.

  Cheers Gary, been thinking of something like this as house backup EPS (emergency power system)but with a higher spec Solar generator ( type the campers use but 3 - 4kWh) which would then power up the inverter only allowing the house to draw down off the already installed storage we have solar &amp; 20kwh of battery but no backup - in my mind &nbsp;could make the additional battery portable for other uses eventually.<br>The costs between the two to set up seem to be about the same ( switching/earthing upgrades ) or additional power bank seem about the same.<br>Or am I overthinking things😂

  I’ve all ready got a large number of batteries doing exactly this. My solar array isn’t that large, but I can save money by charging at off peak and powering equipment in my home when needed.
