Join the fast-growing community! www.dralexnewsletter.com

I've just launched a daily newsletter and I'd love you to join me.

It's called The Long Game, and it's an extension of everything I do here on the channel. Every morning I'll send you something short, whether that's a thought I've had that day, a tip you can put into practice, a piece of research I found interesting, or something I've learned from years of seeing people at their worst in A&E.

Most take between thirty seconds and a couple of minutes to read, so it fits around a normal morning, certainly shorter than my videos anyway...

I've called it The Long Game because that's what all of this is. There are no shortcuts and no quick fixes in anything I teach. It's small things done consistently over many years, and that's what genuinely changes your health in the end.

It's free, and you can sign up here: www.dralexnewsletter.com

This is brand new, and so the first few emails may end up in your spam, as with all new email newsletters, but hopefully this will soon sort itself out....

Let me know what you think!

Best wishes,

Alex 😊

    81 is 1/4 of normal dose 325.
I can testify about being independent is more important than living longer. I am 71, not afraid to die (I have had a good run), much more concerned about being able to take care of myself while I am alive.

Short videos might be helpful to people with short attention spans or minimal interest in the subject. However, for most of us that watch you daily videos, we come for the clarity and informative information and enjoy the level of detail that you provide.

Key Points to Remember After You Watch The Video. (Thank Me Later):
1. Aspirin helps stop blood clots, which are tiny clumps of cells that can block arteries (3:33-4:41).

2. Doctors use a small dose of aspirin to keep blood moving smoothly, but taking too much can hurt your stomach lining (10:11-12:06).

3. If someone is having a heart attack, doctors give them a larger dose quickly to stop the blockage right away (12:23-13:37).

4. Aspirin is very important for people who have already had a heart attack or a stroke to prevent another one (14:35-15:15).

5. This is called secondary prevention, and it is a very powerful way to keep patients safe (14:04-15:10).

6. For people who have never had a heart attack, taking aspirin every day is called primary prevention (14:21-14:28).

7. New studies show that for healthy people, the risk of bleeding from taking aspirin often outweighs the benefits (22:07-24:20).

8. In countries like the UK, US, Canada, and Australia, doctors generally do not recommend aspirin for primary prevention anymore (31:19-32:42).

9. As people get older, their blood vessels become more fragile, which makes the risk of a dangerous bleed even higher (25:05-25:27).

10. Eating a healthy diet, like the Mediterranean pattern, is much better at protecting your heart than taking aspirin (35:18-35:53).

11. Regular exercise and keeping your blood pressure at a healthy level are also very effective ways to avoid heart problems (36:00-37:25).

12. Always talk to your own doctor before you stop or start taking any medication, as they know your personal health history best (39:43-40:03).

@DrAlexWibberley I made a full content pack from this episode, starting with short-form video clips, along with a newsletter, short summary, glossary, mind map, infographic, and ready-to-post versions for X, LinkedIn, and Facebook. Let me know if any of these would be useful for your audience, and I’d be happy to send them over.

Hi Alex. Had 2 stents 12 months ago. Back on my pushbike 7 days after. Just off blood thinners, 100mg aspirin daily. Lost 25kg this year following your suggestions. Never counted a calorie, just clean eating and 16/8. No ultra processed food. I ride to work every day and regularly do a 100km ride at weekends. I'm 66 and in better shape than in my 40's. Thanks to you (and my cardiologist) . I'm off blood pressure meds. 20kg to go. Planning to ride Mawson Trail next year - 800km.

My MGH cardiologist prescribed 81 mg ASA daily. As a retired RN after 50 years nursing, I truly appreciate your clear and dynamic style of teaching. Thank you! Enjoy your fatherhood! ❤

The 81 mg “baby aspirin” dose is mostly a historical artifact of old U.S. pharmacy measurement units, not because researchers discovered that exactly 81 mg is biologically ideal. Before metric dosing became standard, aspirin tablets in the U.S. were commonly made as 5-grain tablets. One apothecary grain is about 64.8 mg, so a full 5-grain aspirin tablet was roughly 324–325 mg. A quarter of that is about:

325 mg ÷ 4 = 81.25 mg

That quarter-tablet dose became the familiar “baby aspirin,” and manufacturers eventually standardized it at 81 mg.

Several years ago my doctor recommended I take a small dose aspirin daily because of my high blood pressure. After some passage of time (I don’t remember how long) I began to have nose bleeds almost daily and sometimes had trouble stopping the nose bleed. I finally stopped taking it. I told my doctor and he was fine with me stopping I just had my 82nd birthday.
