  I bought a couple of solar panels 3 years ago which I placed on the roof of my summer house to charge a portable Bluetti battery.  In the summer it charges very quickly, so I bring it into the house and use it to power an air fryer, etc, or it can power the electric lawn mower in the garden.  The panels still charge the battery in the winter but obviously more slowly.  No idea how much money it's saving in the grand scheme of things, but any "free" electricity feels like a bonus.

  I bought plug-in solar panels and I put them on the roof of my summerhouse. It’s been 4 months now and I’ve already saved over €200 and my system cost €560 complete. I fitted them myself in just a morning. I expect to have saved the cost of the panels in under 2 years and then the energy will be free. I live in Europe and plug-in solar has been around for years.

  Some good points made - especially the nod to <b>not</b> getting several &apos;sets&apos; of it and plugging them in all over the house :D &nbsp;I do confess that was what I immediately thought to do :O

  I think you hit on the reason why plugin solar WILL be a “game changer” (along with batteries when they come). People don’t understand how solar works, and all the potential benefits, until they get their first direct experience. I started with a “small” 6kw system, got some direct experience with solar and got excited. Then I spent 10 years electrifying the entire house, switching to EVs, installing batteries, and now the 24KW solar array on my house and carport powers everything, including backup in a grid outage. It’s kinda magical!!

  I&apos;ve got a plugin solar in Belgium &nbsp;(2 800W micro inverters connected to 2 of the 3 phrases in our house, here the 800W limit is per phase), coupled with a 5kWh plug-in battery.<br>Each 800W microinverter is connected to 4 panels, 450W each, so is overpanelled in parallel.<br>Total generation for July just hit 310kWh (150kWh from one array and 160kWh from the other). We have imported only 38kWh from the grid in July.

  I&apos;m an Australian, I did my Masters in (a) Sustainable Development (topic; water). One of the things we discovered here (remember how dry it can be here) was that a 1 cubic meter rain water tank did a remarkable job of 1. reducing storm water runoff 2. reducing household water use substantially.<br>I see the same for &quot;plugin battery&quot;. Solar in the UK seems like some sort of joke when you consider the daily sunshine and the type of living / house orientaiton.<br>Plugin Battery would obviate all this and perhaps allow the power companies to use that and better balance power demands.
