A bunch of the Walmart grandson heirs love cycling. they are building insane levels of cycling infrastructure in Missouri and Arkansas, and these bikes are their fan service.

Ozark is sizing against MTBs, which are usually wider, longer, and taller. And Americans are huge.

Bless them for creating more cyclists, and bless you for covering the weird and wonderful.

Thank you, I understand that the videos where you cover more entry-level bikes don't perform as well as the others, but know that it's very appreciated by channel fans like myself.

I think Walmart has put a lot of thought into the specs of this bike. At this price point the target is someone who doesn't want to (or can't) spend a lot of money but wants a safe, reliable, fun bike. They don't want to take it to the bike shop for maintenance they could do themselves. The 1x drive train, external cables, mechanical brakes all say "You can work on this at home". Even the black paint says "paint over scratches yourself". (I wish all painted bikes came with a pot of touch-up). My only concern is that their target audience are not going to be bike fit experts and could end up buying the wrong size. Kudos Walmart. Great review, please keep these coming.

I like how the guy at 5:00 mark needed to say all that extra stuff when asked how much the bike costs 😂

the thing that yall are missing (probably because you are not American), is that there will always be people that will buy bikes from Walmart. It is just sort of ingrained in people who want A bike (any) for cheap and who do not care much beyond how it looks and does it work, that they check the stores they visit the most first. They will not think to or want to find a bicycle-specific store. They will check Walmart, Target, Dicks Sporting Goods, Academy Sports, etc. because they are already comfortable in those stores. A lot of people are also worried that bicycle-specific stores will try to upsell them on a bike they do not need by confusing them. For someone who is not going to do a bunch of research and who just wants a bike to commute or ride with their family, Walmart offering a bike as great as these Ozark Trails is amazing. Hopefully, they have a good experience on these bikes and keep up with it as a hobby (or at least become more sensitive to cyclists while they drive their cars).

I think Jimmy answered his own question. For a bike that is meant to be used hard and stored in a shed mostly by riders not too acquainted with bicycle maintenance, mechanical discs are more practical.
Cable stretch can be easily dialed out with barrel adjusters while noisy in many sheds and garages will mean that hydraulic brakes will need to be bled frequently.

To answer Jimmy's question about hydraulic discs, the cost isn't the brakes - it's the complexity of making a hydraulic BRIFTER. there's a lot going on in a hydraulic brifter and the cheapest hydraulic brifters are about £200 for just the brifters alone. If you've ever dismanted and serviced a mechanical brifter, you will understand what an impressive feat the hydraulic ones are - because there's seemingly NO ROOM for the hydraulic reservior and piston. Remember how early non-series Shimano hydraulic road brifters were massive and ugly? They still cost double what the 105 mechanical brifters cost, and those 105 brifters worked okay with decent dual-piston mechanicals like Spyres or hybrid hydraulics like HY-RDs.

Cable discs are simple to adjust.

I regularly fix the crappy hydraulic brakes on my extended family's bikes, and they suck. I would rather have mechanical brakes than low-end hydraulic ones.
