  The chain pin fix used to be the only and correct way to break and resize a chain. &nbsp;But with the advent of more gears and thinner chains, manufacturers began using riveted pins which are deformed into the much thinner side links (and which are therefore damaged when they are pressed out). &nbsp;In case anyone wanted to know.

  Stick a few zip-ties up into a handlebar and replace the plug - they don’t rattle, weigh nothing and might save your bacon if something breaks. I keep 4-5 of various lengths in every bike

  I agree with every word in this video. On the centering brake calipers, I find it easier and more effective to loosen both boltss and eyeball an air gap on both sides of the rotor then slowly tighten while watching that gap.

  Another tip. Not all inner tubes fit all tyres but it&apos;ll get you home. My mate blew his latex inner tube on his road brake after a long downhill (His rim brakes heated up, melted and split the tube). We stuck one of my tubes in, which was too small, but it got us back<br><br>It&apos;ll forever be known as the inner tube that could

  A LBS owner told me to keep a new tube in your tool bag/saddle bag. Don’t keep a patched tube as your spare. So you puncture on the road, replace the bad tube with the new one. When finished with the ride, repair the tube and put it back on the bike. Put the new tube back in your tool bag/saddle bag. Just don’t pinch it when getting it off the wheel.

  Done the chain pin one. &nbsp;I was riding with a group in Scotland and we&apos;d just climbed up a hill with a 20% pitch. &nbsp;Coasted down most of the descent and I thought pedalling was feeling a bit funny. &nbsp;When we got back to the flat, it was getting worse and I discovered I&apos;d snapped one side-plate in the chain. &nbsp;If I hadn&apos;t noticed and tried to pedal hard, it would probably have ripped the mech into the rear wheel. &nbsp;I limped to a lay-by and (because no quick-link) did the pin bodge as I did at least have a chain tool. &nbsp;Now the chain was 2 links shorter and I left it in the inner ring from there all the way to the end of the ride, keeping to very easy gears. &nbsp;Replaced the chain when I got back home.<br>And bought a quick-link.
